Your
Frequently Asked Questions

Why am I receiving a bill when I already paid my co-pay?
At the time of service, your ER co-pay was collected. We then filed with your insurance for your emergency room benefits. The balance due represents your deductible, coinsurance or other non-covered services.

What is a deductible?
A deductible is the amount you must pay out-of-pocket for expenses before your insurance company will begin to cover your medical bills. Typically, the deductible starts over at the beginning of the calendar year and each family member must meet their own deductible.

What is a facility charge?
Emergency rooms must maintain an extremely high level of preparedness in order to effectively treat emergency medical conditions. This level of preparedness is considerably higher than exists at other, more traditional, medical facilities. Emergency rooms charge a facility fee for each patient visit to help offset the recurring costs associated with maintaining this high level of preparedness. This is done in an effort to insure that each and every patient presenting to our facility has access to an environment that provides first rate emergency treatment. The facility fee is a charge that is calculated on a point system which is based on procedures performed, patient acuity, potential liability and the complexity of the physician/patient interaction.
